NCBBA-W FEATURED TEAM OF THE WEEK

ST. BONAVENTURE UNIVERSITY

NCBBA-W | North Atlantic Conference

Mascot:  Bona Wolf

Location:  Allegany, New York

Write-up:  St. Bonaventure University has had a women’s club basketball team since 2016. In 2019, they joined the NCBBA-W basketball league to compete against other club teams around the area. With a wide variety of players from freshmen to seniors, these Bonnies not only promote teamwork on the court, but also team bonding off the court. Building friendships along the way, this team has shown the importance of hard work and perseverance, while always having fun through making silly Tik Tok’s or playing intense games of knock-out.

Interesting/Fun Facts:  A few of our players are managers for our D1 women’s basketball team, one of our players is a magician.

Team Quote:  “Basketball is a beautiful game when the five players on the court play with one heartbeat.” – Dean Smith

NCBBA-W FEATURED TEAM OF THE WEEK

UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS – AMHERST

NCBBA-W | New England North Conference

Mascot:  Minutemen

Location:  Amherst, Massachusetts

Write-up:  This team began with a few women who shared a passion for basketball, and loved to play more than anything. After 4 years of applying, we have finally become an official organization at UMass. We have all put our heart and soul into making this team a reality, and cannot wait to play at a more competitive club level with the NCBBA. We are excited to give other women the opportunity to not only just play for the team, but become a family just like we are.

Interesting/Fun Facts:  This is the first ever Women’s Club Basketball Team at UMass Amherst, and before we became an official Registered Student Organization, we used to play intramurals as a team (champions 3 years in a row) and play in pick up games at the Recreation Center!

Write-up:  Villanova Women’s Club Basketball is proud to compete in the NCBBA league as well as in various independent tournaments across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and Boston. During a normal semester the team practices twice per week, but during the COVID-19 pandemic we have stayed active by playing small outdoor pick-up games on the weekends. We also typically participate in various social and service events with other Villanova club sports teams, and we are consistently one of the top fundraising teams for the NOVAdance Dance Marathon to help fight pediatric cancer! Last year, our team was excited to be ranked 3rd nationally during the final week of NCBBA rankings, and we are looking forward to getting back on the court!

20-21 NCBBA-W Season to be Spring Only

The NCBBA-W has surveyed the member teams regarding the possibility of playing fall conference games due to COVID-19 restrictions.  We have heard from over 90% of the NCBBA-W membership and only 2 teams have reported that they are allowed to compete this fall.  Given this information, we will be moving forward with the plan of the 20-21 NCBBA-W season being spring-only.  That being said, we are going to be delaying the scheduling of the spring-only conference games till late fall semester.  We will be reaching out to our teams again in late October to reevaluate everyone’s status regarding spring competition with the goal of releasing the spring schedules by the end of November.  This goal may change based upon the results of our October evaluations.

During this time we will continue to recruit new teams to join the NCBBA-W for spring participation as we have had several teams interested in joining but delayed their registration as they awaited to find out if they would be allowed to compete during the fall semester.
